Help , comp wont start up

Posting on my laptop here cause my regular comp is having a weird problem. I went on it today and the second after my screensaver went away i got a pop up from avg saying somethin in windows/system32, was infected by some trojan, I clicked heal and then it said to restart to complete. Well now every time my comp gets the windows xp professional loading screen, it immediatley restarts. i tryed to start in safe mode, tryed to start with "last known settings that worked" , same result just keeps restarting. any1 have any ideas before i have to try and reformat my comp for the 2nd time in a month?

p.s. i have no idea how i got this trojan... i download stuff off ares, all i can think of

I use ares as well without any problems..I doubt you got it from that AS LONG AS you have adequate protection..ie antivirus/spyware etc.. but as for not even being able to get into safe mode..how long do you let it run before you give up on safe mode?

are you sure you wish to reformat as it maybe a hard/software problem and I would be happy to move this thread to the windows forum where the experts there could help you alot more..would you like me to do that?
