I'm just wondering what you're running your settings at? What graphics card are you using? I just installed an Albatron Geforce 7950GT which was a big improvement over my 6600GT but I still can't even think of running ultrahigh across the board or even close to it.

Also, I've noticed some sound anomolies. Example, I was flying the Sitka approach mission and there was the sound of loons calling which you would never hear from the cockpit and also some strange water noise. I've heard noise discrepancies in other situations too.

It's an awesome program though. A true quantum leap from FS2004.

    Hi

Yeah this sim is very demanding. I can't run it very well, but I kinda knew I wouldn't be able to before I bought it. I have most everything on medium and med-low. Only aircraft at Ultra High. I have ground traffic at 20% and nearly no AI planes. Only GA at 15%.
    I am running it on a XP2100+ at 200x11, 6800GT and 2gigs of Corsair pc3200 cas 2.

I agree, I don't think you would be able hear the loons either.
I read of some others having a static like sound when using flaps and ATC. I had it once in ATC, but I thought it was suppose to be there. I now think it is something else. I have not had it happen but for that 1 time.

I still think it is the best of the series. The new features are very nice. I went ahead and got the deluxe version and now I am very glad I did. There are already some good add-ons that are for the deluxe only.

Do you use any other flight sims that are not of the FS series?

Yeah, I don't think any 6000 series made will make you happy for FSX. My 7950 GT does do a very respectable job, just can't run ultra across the board, but you get most of it. I'm runnin ultra high on aircraft and med to med high on scenery and graphics. I'm runnin weather and traffic from low to very low though and it's traffic I really want. When I turn it up things go south. With the 6600 it was low to very low across the board for a livable performance.

Maybe the loon thing is what the programmers were going for. It's not a big deal. I haven't noticed any static.

I also got the deluxe version though I still use 2004 also. It's still good.

As for any other flight sims, the few I've tried just didn't compare and couldn't hold my interest. I also didn't care for combat fs either.

Yeah mate, I am still flying FS9 too. Actually more than FSX.
I will build a new system in a few months. Let Vista and DX10 hardware have some time. I even thought about uninstalling FSX for the time being. I just don't have the horsepower for it right now. But I can see it is going to be sweet when I can crank up the settings.
I really don't understand why FSX runs so slowly even at low settings. I have FS9 locked at 32 fps and everything maxed, along with loads of add-ons. It runs at 32 all day long. To get 20 in FSX I have a pretty bare looking world. Night flying is good though.

As of late I haven't been spending as much time with combat sims either, but I am looking forward to Knights of the Sky (WW1 sim). I played Il-2 a lot for a few years, but lately I have flew it mostly without enemy aircraft. I like the flight dynamics in it. LOMAC didn't last too long. Not much fun to shoot at planes I don't even see, lol.
