CD-RW drive to DVD drive

can i change my CD-RW drive to a DVD drive w/out buying a new drive? In other words can i change the propeties so my CD-RW can read and play DVD disks?

    DVDs need a different laser to read the denser packed rows of data. A DVD laser can read CDs, but a CD laser cannot read DVDs.

    NO, its another different way of how this technology works, the precision of the dvd laser is superior to the precision that the cd laser can achieve.
