Blue screen and driver issues

hi my computer has just recovered frommalware and a virus and since had loadddddddddddddds of problems relating to hardware. My computer will randomly crash from time to time but since it has become more frequent.

I wrote down the error message that keeps coming up on my screen. It has become more regular recently and generally once i start up my cpu it stays normal for 3 mins and then cue error message and shutdown.

The error message is

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer Follow these steps:

Check to e sure you have adauete disk space
If a driver is identified in the stop message disable the driver and check with the manufacturer for updates . Try changing video adaptors

Check with your hardware vendor for BIOS updates. Disable BIOs memory options such as caching or shadowing.

    sunday_girl, the problem you are seeing is caused by an illegal memory access. It can be caused by a number of things including the HaxDoor virus or variant as well as a critical software mistake in an application.

    It may also be caused by failing RAM- which is what I suggest you probably check for first (I see you've already been to the SVT forum).

    I recommend you get Memtest and try to run it for 2 full passes.

    Read up on it and the directions. Basically download, create the boot disk and let your machine boot from it- it will run automatically. If you start seeing errors (results in red), stop the test- you have a memory problem. Generally, these will start happening pretty fast if there is a problem. If you have more than one card, test them one at a time. If the test fails, I would just replace the defective board. Make sure that BOTH cards are the same.

    You may have to revisit the SVT forum if this doesn’t do it. If you have installed any applications recently, you might try uninstalling it and see if the problem goes away.

    Thanks for getting back to me i havent had chance to take your advice yet but I just wanted to also mention about another thing thats been happening. Sometimes when the cpu crashes the error messaage also cites an additional error saying bad_pool_caller. Does this help specify what the problem might be? I also have a few processes on my cpu when i open task manager which i dont recognise such as savedump.exe and toaster.exe, ezi_hnm2.exe .


    Just thought id mention that in case it helps diagnose the problem .

    BAD_POOL_CALLER is generally caused by a driver making an invalid pool (or chunk of memory or resource) request. So I would continue to suggest doing Memtest.

    The processes you are seeing may not be anything to be concerned about. Savedump.exe actually does OS system dumps when there is a problem. Actually, if there is not a hardware issue, you might even be asked to do a minidump.

    Having a memory board problem may be the simplest of your likely possibilities. Otherwise these failures could be caused by a driver or kernel (OS core software) corruption- possibly a failing hard drive. These may take quite a bit of time on your part to determine and fix. Driver reinstalls and/or an OS repair may be in your future. So I recommend that you be reasonably sure of your hardware first.

    If Memtest is negative, I would then recommend a hard drive diagnostic using chkdsk next. If it warrants it, you might even try diagnostics that may have come with your machine or disk (you can also download these from the disk manufacturer).

    Other useful advice may be coming too. I will be out of country for a while so someone else may guide you through this.

    Be sure to ask for help and post back with results regardless.
