volume control hardware buttons stopped working

I have the HP 9000t laptop (see signature) and my hardware buttons for volume stopped working. I am talking about the buttons at the top of the keyboard, that are touch sensitive. They make sounds when touched, but don't effect the volume. The volume control windows does still work.

The other buttons up there, do work.... and the task tray icon (looks like a rocket ship) is only for the Function keys (ie F1-F12)

Any thoughts?

I also discovered that the remote (fits in express card slot) doesn't effect the volume. I did add a Logitech wireless keyboard which has its own volume control, and I ahve been using the optical digital output for sound (from headphone port to multi channel receiver. Hope this info helps
