Registry change

edited December 2006 in Science & Tech
Good Morning,

I encountered an issue when logging into my PC yesterday.
Operating system: Windowx XP Home Edition
Users: 4

When I attempted to log on to my PC yesterday using my login and password, it wouldn't accept my password on the first attempt. I logged in a second time and it created new settings for the same login.

Therefore when I logged in, I had my default settings for a new user on my computer. I went to the User and Password section in the control panel and looked at the Users. It now has two entries for my login:
randy\backup
randy\temp

Needless to say, My Documents, Favorites and the like cannot be accessed by my new login.

Is there a way that I can get rid of this new temporary randy login and return to my previous login?

I am at work right now, but when I get home I can provide additional information as requested.

Thank you in advance.

Try logging on as Administrator, then change the password for your original account. If you can then log in properly you can delete the new account.

If that doesn't work, see if this suggestion will at least let you get at your files. (You'll likely have to modify the path for each drive letter you have.) :)

I booted my machine to the Safe Mode and logged in as the Administrator. I changed my password, but it didn't revert my settings.

I only have a single drive letter. I tried the executable but I don't know what it was supposed to do. It look like it ran for a few seconds, but not long enough for me to see anything.

It still shows two entries for randy
    randy/backup
    randy/temp

    Thanks.

Please open Windows Explorer and go to C:\Documents and Settings\ -- take a screenshot of this folder and post it in this thread.

I have attached a screenshot of Documents and Settings. I also included a screenshot of what I see in my User Profiles in the System Properties.

I also included links to view it in case you can't view the attachments.
