2 Network Connections...

edited December 2006 in Science & Tech
I have two computers that are set up in a room that is down the hall from my wireless router and main computer. Each of those computers has a wireless card that connects to my wireless router. Unfortunatly, transfering files between my two wireless-connected computers is extremely slow so I was wondering if thier is a way to connect them toghether using network cables and a router without having to enable/disable my wireless cards.

Is it possible to have two connections on a computer (wireless and wired) and still recieve internet access from the wireless connection?

That may sound confusing, I just want to connect the two wireless ones toghether with a network cable yet still have internet to them both from the wireless connection. Whenever I try to do this now, my internet stops working on the wireless computers, yet everything will say connected. Should I disable the DHCP on the wired router? Any help would be nice.

Yes, you can do what you are asking. Set the two wired nics to an ip address range and subnet similar to each other. You will still be able to get iwreless internet and use the wired cards to communicate with each other.

I do it all the time.....my wireless is connected to the 'net and my wired is plugged into a router or firewall I'm setting up on a different subnet. Just use a crossover cable, do what zero says, set static IPs on a different subnet than your wireless. Then don't look for the other computer by netbios name, look for the static IP address for the wired card.
