Need Help Installing XP

edited December 2006 in Science & Tech
Hi. Trying to install XP but screen never displays "Press Any Key to Boot From CD.." or whatever message it should. I have 2 different discs for XP Pro and they can be booted from on my other comp. The computer I'm trying to install it on is what I used to be using before I upgraded (it was able to boot from cd/dvd drive). I gave the computer to my sister and the only thing different now is the hard drive (formatted already). Anyway, as I've said the screen won't display the press any key to boot up. I was able to start an installation on the hard drive after installing it on my own computer but of course I'd get a blue screen after putting it back.. My friend lent me his german xp cd and this time the message would show up. But after it finished loading the drivers? (I think..) then the computer would just restart.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. :s I'm just so frustrated with the computer. I want to get it done now.

Do you know how to get into your BIOS and verify that the CD-ROMs are being detected, and that the boot order has the CD-ROM set first?

If not, that's where we need to start. :)

Hit f1/f2/del/insert repeatedly as the computer is turning on. At the top, there will probably be a menu labelled "BOOT" and a listing of drives installed in your system. Follow the on-screen instructions that tell you how to change the boot order, and then make sure the CD-ROM is first.

Usually on the first menu on the left (If the menu options are across the top), there will be a listing of drives in your system; make sure that the entries equal the number of drives actually installed.

Save your changes and exit (Usually the far right menu EXIT -> Save Changes & Exit), then try booting again.

    Thank you for responding. :)

Yes I've done that already. I've also tried switching IDE channels.

//Oh. Yes to it being detected. And the dvd drive is set to boot first already. //
