PC won't boot to splash screen

Last night I serviced the PC I built for my nephews. I took everything apart, got rid of all the dust, put it together switched it on and it worked perfectly.
Today they brought it back to say that when they started it up this morning, it didn't want to know a thing.

It turns on without having to switch it on at the power button, which is already a bad sign :wtf:
I'm able to get into the BIOS no problem and it seems to load up to the point where it recognizes the SATA drive and looks for the IDE drives. Thereafter it switches to a screen that looks something like this: -|Be`=$-|Be`=$
The = is more of a solid square but I have no key to reproduce that for the purposes of this thread.

Any ideas what might have gone wrong?????

Gibberish displays in the POST area often mean a PSU problem. I'd start there.

    Good luck, Winga. :)

    Id forgotten about this post....

Managed to fix the problem! Thanks Prof.
Turns out they must have somehow messed with the Bios settings.
The boot sequence had been changed and it was booting to the second HDD so it wasn't finding the OS. Bit strange for it to have thrown gibberish out like that but I'm glad it wasn't a hardware failure.
