IBM Thinkpad iSeries 2611 Keyboard
Pterocarpous
Rosie the Riveter Lives On in CA, USA! New
Hey ya'll
I need a working keyboard for my old IBM Thinkpad iSeries 2611. The track point pointing device (little stick in the middle of the keyboard) doesn't work anymore. Apparently, I flexed the thin film cable between the keyboard and the mobo one too many times over the years. It's developed a little crack that stretches across at least one of the runs. My glasses aren't strong enough to see exactly how many runs it transects. Apparently, one was enough, though.
I'm forced to use a mouse now on the PS2 port. It works fine but it's inconvenient. I don't always have a surface to operate the mouse on. (e.g. when I'm slumped in bed w/ the laptop on my, well..., l-a-p!) I have to place a book or some other flat object next to me so I can operate the mouse.
Any ya'll know where I can find such a thing? Maybe someone has an old system the keyboard can be cannabalized from?

Thank you drasnor! What is the FRU no.? Is that the IBM P/N?
This is a laptop keyboard so you'll likely not find it seperate from the laptop. The laptop is an IBM Thinkpad iSeries Model 2611. You can see the "IBM Thinkpad iSeries" on the top side (w/ monitor open). The "2611" no. can be find on a sticker on the underside of the laptop.
I'll take at the keyboard later on today or tonite and see if I can find any identifiers on it.
When servicing IBM equipment, you'll want the model and type numbers for the machine in addition to the FRU P/Ns for each module you want to replace. The model and type numbers will be on the same sticker somewhere on your machine. My laptop has a sticker with '2373-Q1U' marked on it. The type number is 2373 and the model number is Q1U. Type numbers are always four decimal digits and model numbers are always three alphanumeric digits. Both numbers together would tell me everything about your notebook's original configuration.

Wow! Great info drasnor. You know your stuff! I'll print this out and look for the numbers then post them back here.
Thanx again!
Here's the info off of the stickers on the underside of the keyboard and the laptop.
On the underside of the keyboard:
There are two delicate cables (thin film, (transparent) flat) that run from the keyboard and plug into the motherboard
One is a narrow gold cable that connects to the middle of the keyboard
(This is the one that has a tear in it - it connects to the track point pointing device in the middle of the keyboard)
The other is a wider green cable that connects to the front side of the
keyboard (in the center under the function keys)
The cable connections on the keyboard side are fixed.
The cable connections on the motherboard side terminate w/ no connector
(they are (gingerly) snapped in to connectors on the motherboard)

I probably gave you too much information. Hopefully, you have what you need though. Thank you so much for checking into this. That'd be sooo cool if you could find this critter.
Thanx again, drasnor. I really appreciate it.
