NF7-S Question

edited November 2003 in Hardware
I am going to be ordering one of these, along with a new vid card and new ram :D , as soon as my dad gets home. I am wondering how many IDE cables this board comes with, so that if i need one i can go out and get it soon. Thanks

It comes with one IDE and one Floppy cable. It also comes with one Serielle adapter and SATA cable (to use your current HD on the SATA controller). If you are not using too many drives I would recomend getting some nice single device round cables for your optical drives and install everything as a Master on it's own channel. CD - IDE-0 / CD-RW IDE-1 / HD on SATA controller.

i do plan on getting round cables, because i like the added airflow and how they can be hidden alot easier. But i have 1 cd-rw and 2 wd 120 gb SE harddrives, so one will have to be master and the other slave. Thanks for the info, now i just have to get some cables at bestbuy or something.

I ordered 2 clear rounded cables (10"x1 18"x1) from www.svc.com (got the link from mtgoat) and they were dirt cheap ...around $2 each and I've seen them at other places around $5 or better.

Why not put one WD on the SATA controller. Then you could do a comparison for us. I originally had My CD-RW on IDE-0, my CD-ROM on IDE-1 and my HD on the SATA controller and it worked great.

Yes, I like these in particular if you don't need to go far and any of these for longer reaches such as optical drives. The short cables work great where they will reach since there is lee to tuck away and I prefer as short of a cable length as possibele anyway.

Thanks for the link csimon and mtgoat, i just ordered 3 of these nice red round cables, one for floppy, a dual for Harddrives, and a single for my CD-RW, Theyll go nice with my Black and Red Thermaltake (i dont think the sideways harddrive bay has enough clearance for the SATA attachment). Thanks;)

One thing to keep in mind is that SATA cables are kind of stiff and don't like being bent sharply. But I think if there is sufficient room it could be a good alternative.

I just wish that the HD plug on the other end was longer so I could use my hot swap box. :(
