Hey ya'll
Can I get away w/ sharing a pair of speakers between two or more computers? If so, what connectors/spltters/cables, etc. do I need to purchase?

I use a kvm and always have on it my own 2 desktop systems. For each of these two systems I have a pair of (cheapy) speakers. From time to time I need to add 1 or more other systems to the bench to perform maintenance on. W/ respect to sound, I don't need to do anything fancy but would just like to confirm that the (basic) sound on the additional system works w/o having to rob the speaker wire from either of my own systems. (This is what I currently do.)

So, I'd like to maintain sound on my own two systems while providing speakers for an additional system...w/o having to add more equipment (speakers) to my bench....

Ya'll have any ideas?

    You want something like this...

I guess the main idea is get a KVM that has audio as well :)

They even have ones for under $30.00

I have never heard of this site,, but they have a good rating on Google and have the best price...

Thankyou, Sledgehammer70 for the links. :smiles: Although it's a bit dated w/ no USB or speaker support, I'd like to hang onto my rack-mounted KVM (Omni View Pro 16-Port).

I was hoping I could get away w/ using some sort of splitter on the speaker wire. One reason is I want to hear sound produced from all the systems regardless of which one I'm switched into. Various sounds often alert me to switch systems to follow up on something that has taken place on one of the other systems. e.g. tests ending or generating alerts or just plain email arrived notifications.

Maybe it's pie in the sky and I shoud just break down & add a 3rd pair of speakers to my bench. :-/

Simplicity is the best. Self contained.

Sally (Jonshandbrake) got about 30 of them through ebay in AUS @ $4.-aud. Fixed the problem putting sound in around 30 comps.:)

You could always buy the cheapest KVM audio setups I listed and only use the Audio inputs :)

Hey dragonV8... What exactly is that? Is it speakers? If so, for one computer or more? Rack mountable? I can't tell from the mfgr's pics and the specs don't say squat.

Thankyou Sledgehammer70. That's a good idea for someone wanting audio on only one system at a time but I want audio on all systems at all times regardless of which one I'm switched into. (see post #3)

Speakers that fit into a 5 1/4 inch bay, the same as a CD/DVD ROM.
