[Resolved] iexplore process help please.

hi this is my first posting on this forum, i was refered here by a fellow micro mart team folder by the name of spike09 so many thanks to him for showing me here,

my problem is i have two process by the name of "iexplore" running in task manager, i have found out that they are a trojan and they are affecting my connections to the internet on variours online games, as well as delivering the usual pop windows advertising poker etc,
i posted a hijack log on to tom coyote web site 4 days ago with no replys and im at the stage of reformatting my HDD and reinstalling windows just to get rid of this critter.
I have booted into safe mode with restore off, scaned with avg 7.5,spybot,adaware se, counter spy, spyware blaster, cwshreder, and while these have found minor things none have helped me rid this process from starting.
i will post my hi jack log here and hope some one here may know what to do before i tear all my hair out
sorry about the long first post and thanks for taking the time to read this

lee

iexplorer.exe is a legitimate (and integral) process that you should see running in Windows Task Manager. However, you shouldn't see it there twice.

Experts in malware detection & removal are in this forum to help you. They will review your HJT and help you w/ your problem. Just hang in there. As you can imagine, they are v-e-r-y busy.

Let's see how things go there b-e-f-o-r-e you take the last desperate measure step of formatting your HDD, ok?

Hi, you have a LOP infection:

Please Download NoLop to your desktop from one of the links below...
    Link 1
    Link 2
    Link 3
    • First close any other programs you have running as this will require a reboot
    • Double click NoLop.exe to run it
      • Now click the button labelled "Search and Destroy"
<<your computer will now be scanned for infected files>>
      • When scanning is finished you will be prompted to reboot only if infected, Click OK
      • Now click the "REBOOT" Button.
      • A Message should popup from NoLop. If not, double click the program again and it will finish Please Post the contents of C:\NoLop.log along with a fresh HijackThis log
--If you receive an error, "mscomctl.ocx or one of its dependencies are not correctly registered," please download mscomctl.ocx to your system32 folder then rerun the program.--

Hi Lee! I did not know you had posted the logs, because you edited your original post. It was by chance that I decided to look at this thread. Next time, please post a new reply so I can get email notification.

You have HijackThis in the Temp folder, where we do not want it. Follow these instructions to download HijackThis to a safer location.

Click here to download HJTsetup.exe, and save it to your desktop.
      • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
      • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
      • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the "Select Addition Tasks" dialogue.
      • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
      • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.

Hi Lee, thanks for the logs.

      Lets continue...

      1. I don't see any indication of a Firewall in your HijackThis log. This may be because:

(1.) You are using Windows Firewall or a hardware Firewall.
(2.) You are using a Firewall of an unknown vendor.
(3.) You are using a Firewall, but it is disabled for unknown reasons
(4.) You don't use any firewall at all.

In the case you don't have a Firewall, please download one from the list below - They are Free!

Zone Alarm << I recommend this
      Sunbelt Kerio PF
      Outpost Firewall

      2. Download this file to your Desktop- combofix.exe
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

      Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

      3. Please post the following...

      1) ComboFix log

Hi Lee! Please do the following...

      1. We need to disable Windows Defender as it is preventing the fix from working
      • Open Windows Defender
      • Click on Tools > General Settings.
      • Scroll Down and Uncheck Turn on real-time Protection (recommended).
      • After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
      • Right click on the Windows Defender icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Windows Defender.
      2. Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only!

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

      Under Main select the following:
      • Windows Temp
      • Current User Temp
      • All Users Temp
      • Temporary Internet Files
      • Prefetch
      • Java Cache
      *The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

      3. Please download AVG Anti-Spyware to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder.
      http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
      • Install AVG Anti-Spyware by double clicking the installer.
      • Follow the prompts. Make sure that Launch AVG Anti-Spyware is checked.

      • Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and uncheck Start with Windows.
      • Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
      AVG Anti-Spyware manual updates.
Download the Full database to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder and install it by double clicking the file. Make sure that AVG Anti-Spyware is closed before installing the update.

      Use an AntiVirus Software

It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See the link below for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs.
Computer Safety On line - Anti-Virus
      http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?p=53#53

      Update your Anti Virus Software

It is imperative that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

      Use a Firewall

I can not stress enough how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For an article on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below.

There is one important thing I forgot to get you to do and that is to update Java. It is mentioned in the 'staying clean' tips above, but I'll post it here.

Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect systems. Follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update to the latest version...

      Updating Java:
      • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 .
      • Click the "Download" button to the right.
      • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement."
      • The page will refresh.
      • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
      • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
      • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove the following...
        • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 8
        • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
      • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
      • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.

Let me know when that is done and then I'll close this thread.
