Sony has hit its mark with 1 Million PS3's in the wild, and claims to still be inline to ship 6 million units world wide by the end of March, which was a target originally set before production problems plagued the launch allocation.
Aside from some other numbers, all Sony had for us about the PS3 was a nugget about user-generated content. The only thing mentioned about the PS3 for 2007 was that Sony intends to allow users to "explore, create and share user-generated content" with the PS3 online.
If Sony is able to ship 6 Million units by March it will not only gain them better market share in the gaming world, It could just give them the title for the next gen format war "Blu-ray vs. HD DVD".

I was at Best Buy last night, buying Gears of War for my XBox 360.

I asked the gaming area clerk how the PS3s were selling vs. the 360 and the Wii. He stated that the Wii was the #1 system for the Xmas Season, followed by the 360. This could be due to lack of inventory on Sony's part, but he also stated that there has been 3 PS3s available in the store for the last week. In the same time he's sold over a dozen Wii and half as many 360s..

Wonder if the $600.00+ price tag is too much for the avarage console buyer. I'd have a hard time spending that much on a console. I got my 360 because I had lots of Xmas $$ and gift cards to reduce the price to more palatable levels.

Anyone know if this is true in your area also?

It's the same in my area. I can't speak for the 360, but the Wii has been selling out all over, and I've found PS3s in stock despite the lower number of units that Sony's been able to put out. Same thing with handhelds... I haven't been able to find a DS lite at the local Best Buy for a while now, and at the front of the store there's a big (locked) cage stacked with PSPs. It's pretty funny.

I work at Best Buy. The 360 was the #1 seller this Christmas season, by the numbers. More products on the shelves, more sales -- availability dictated the success of the season.

Wiis are the least-returned consoles, XBoX 360 next, PS3 last. We've been receiving an abundance of DOA PS3s, but even more have been returned simply unwanted. We've had PS3s in stock every day since 12/27, and only a hand full have been sold.

XBoX 360s have been coming back DOA as well.

Cashier said they get a 360 every other day or so, which is why I sprung for the warranty on mine. Most of the time I pass on buying the service plan, thought this might be a good time to make an exception.
