Video Converter

I have a video of my cousins wedding, but it's in a .DAT file. I don't know what kind of recorder was used, but I know that if I want to burn a DVD that's compatible with my DVD player it needs to be AVI or something. Can I use Nero to convert it, or is there any other programs that can do it?

    I haven't tried with Nero. However, I know winavi can convert .dat to DVD.
