windows 98se problem

when i turn on my computer it says date time not set f1 to boot i hit f1 and nothing happens.i put the windows 98se cd in and still nothing what could be wrong do i need a boot disk i am using a public computer so anything i use has to be saved to a floppy and be able to put straight into my computer no zip files please :rant: i am so frustarted i know very little about computers any help will be apprecitated it is a compaq desk pro 2000 computer

    Do you have one of those multimedia keyboards with the Function keys pulling double-duty as shortcuts to programs? If so, make sure the F-Lock key is enabled.

    Try going into the BIOS and adjusting the date and time there.

    It sounds like your CMOS battery has croaked. It is located on the motherboard and looks like a watch battery. You should be able to replace it for just a few bucks. :)

    yes it would be a bios issue.
    1 of two problems
    cmos battery
    motherboard is funk'd
    in the later, I have seen this issue occure where the date and time needed to be set every boot due to a hardware addon that damaged a component on the mainboard, perhaps the cmos chip itself
