Internet Connection not Recognized

edited January 2007 in Science & Tech
Hi!

Due to a lost password, I had to reinstall Windows XP Home - while the loss was minimal and I did restore access to my system after reinstalling windows, I can't seem to get Internet Explorer or Mozilla browsers to recognize the existing DSL connections.

I have gone through all of the steps - and while a notification will pop up in the bottom right stating that a connection is live, the browsers don't find it.

Is there any easy fix to this?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Regards,

Katie

You say you've gone through all the steps, but what all have you done?

Checked your IP? Is it a 169.x.x.x IP? Is this wired or wireless? Are you using a router or is your computer plugged directly to a DSL/Cable modem?

The steps that I went through were by going through Control Panel, Internet Options, Setting up connection...checking manual and checking the never dial a connection, etc.

The connection is wired and the DSL cable is direct plug. As I said the connection is noted in the lower right hand icons.

How do I check an IP address?

If it's windows XP, you can right click on the connection and goto status, then select the support TAB at the top... should show an IP there.
