Hey all,

Some of you may or may not know that outside of my day job I dj to earn a little extra cash. I currently have a bit of interest from an internet radio station but I have no idea about the rules and regulations around internet radio. I know tradional radio require a broadcast leicence etc but what about Web radio?

I have no interest in being involved in a pirate station but I dont know what the station should be doing to be legit. Can any one help or suggest somewhere I can read up? I have tried a google search but that didn't help?

Cheers

a libary of music or do your own.
If you do let me know your station I'll check it out

I have Live365 playing an awful lot. I also have that Linksys Music Bridge so the sound goes through my WiFi over to my big stereo. Whatever you like, they've got several hundred stations that play it.

It is likely that you'll need to look at getting the appropriate licences:
    MCPS:

    and maybe PPL:

I don't think you need licenses to broadcast your own station on live365.
But all I do is listen,I do know you can ask for support $$ from the poeple that listen to your station.

The usual is that the DJs pay a fee for playing but basically I dont want to get nicked for dong something illegal as I beleave they can take your records. The fines and loss of decks/mixers I could handle coz I could just buy more but records are really personal. I dont think you need a liecene to broadcast pre recorded stuff but I think you do need a licence for Live stuff. Really not sure. Ill check the above links out

An internet radio station which I have been listening for about 6 years is Woxy. In my opinion they are good model to look at. I love them because they actually have DJ's, bring in small bands for live performance and archives and podcasts them, and lists the songs that you play with a click were you can buy the song. I just hate internet radio stations that just take it from a random playlist with no DJ's. If I wanted that I would just listen to my own music.
