HELP BSOD also c000021a 0xc0000142

Last action on my machine was watching an avi, that i have viewed several times before. My machine had updated that day and I had not restarted yet. The next morning it is bluescreened with the following code: c000021a 0xc0000142 (0x00000000 0x00000000)....I have searched up and down for this, a format and fresh install is a last resort ONLY.

My machine is a DELL E510 and I have tried booting in safe mode with the same error arising after the windows logo is visible momentarily. I have also tried Last known config that worked and ended with the same results.

I have viewed the microsoft KB and am only finding roxio go back and an internet explorer error ( which was updated on my computer maybe a month ago). While running a diagnostics test everything cleared except for an over current in my USB controller. I removed the casing and made sure all my cards and ram were seated properly.

I have tried a few other opinions that ive dug up being;
1. booting from my xp cd and running recovery console, then trying to expand winlogon.ex_ to my c:\windows\system32......ACCESS DENIED
2.I have tried to run drwatson, using system root\system32\drwtsn32.exe -I
NO GOOD
3. AND I have tried using the "cd $ntuninstallKB######$\spuninst" to remove updates from windows that may have contained faulty drivers but i am still stuck.
4. Ive ran a chkdsk on c: and reads that there are 1 or more unrecoverable problems.
5. Im not even able to do a dir to view the files on my drive.

Like mentioned before, I am completely against reformatting due to the high level of files generated over the course of my college education in CAD

    ok I have my original boot cd and can now successfully run the recovery console, i have performed a chkdsk and it says the drive is in working order. I tried to reboot but still recieve the error. Where should I restart with the methods ive tried. I feel i may be a little closer now that i can actually view my drive contents thru the recovery console.
