Today Nvidia has announced that they have invested three million dollars into Canadian company Acceleware Corp. Acceleware is heavily involved in high-performance computing tasks acceleration using Nvidia GPU’s mainly for the electromagnetic (cell-phone, microwave, IC), seismic (oil exploration), biomedical, industrial and military markets. Acceleware claims that for many of these applications, the acceleration possible on specific tasks can reach between 10x and 40x. That's on accelerator cards similar to the old 7900GTX. The new G80 generation is expected to provide a further boost.

Nvidia's investment may change Acceleware’s approach to the market, as Nvidia needs a software partner that can produce more mainstream highly optimized NV-based FP processing. Once the FP portion is fixed and the brand is accepted on more programmers desks, Nvidia can start focusing on fixing the X86 execution compatibility, the next step towards having its own CPU.

The main question still floating around, is where is Nvidia going to get an x86 license?
