Manage W M Player 11's appetite

Maybe this is old news to some of you but I just saw it tonight. I was listening to music on WMP 11 that I finally downloaded recently. This thing was really dragging so I pulled up task manager. Bottom line, turn off those visualization things.

Just take a look at the attachment. The CPU graph will tell you when I turned on the colors and when I turned them off. WMP 11 seems to be a bit of a resource hog in general. This just makes it worse.

Oh, and if the "pretties" are turned on, the CPU activity drops back down as soon as you minimize WMP 11, so Gates was at least smart enough to kill it when you can't see it.

Lol, the visualizations have to be rendered, what did you expect. There is a fair bit of math that goes on behind the scenes to render them. Though, I prefer Foobar for music, I have 9500 songs in the library right now with quite a few DSP plug ins and its only using 32mb of ram and uses between 1 to 5 percent of my processor. WMP is too bloated for me.

I'm aware of that...just didn't think it would be that bad. Well, and that screen shot was also taken off this pastey-faced desktop computer I use as a server....I think it's a Sempron 3100, 1.8 GHz with about 440 of RAM. So its not hard to make this thing beg for mercy.

I tried it on one machine and promptly restored my HDD image (which I had the presence of mind to create B4 installing that monstrocity....)
