To Square: Come back to Nintendo
Square's Final Fantasy games were, at one point, all on the Nintendo, but this hasn't been true for some time, and it makes me sad.
<- see!
When Tactics came out on the GBA, I was excited because I thought it marked the return of the FF franchise to the land of Nintendo, then FF12 went to the PS2, and I was disapointed again.
:'( <- see!
Luckily, I has already bought a PS2 so that I could Play FFX and FFX2 (I still have a little crush on Yuna)
Recently, I heard that there was a new FFTactics game coming out in 2007, and I started to look forward to all the cool things that a Tactics game could do on the versitile NintendoDS. However, today, I have learned that 'Tactics: Zodiac Brave Story' is coming out for the PSP (Which I don't have, and frankly dislike enough, that I never will). I've also just found that FFXIII is being developed for the PS3 instead of the Wii. How they could pass up the oportunity to incorporate the WiiMotes into a FF game is beyond me, and while I was willing to shell out $150 for a used PS2 to play FFX, there is no way I will be spending >$500 on a system to play FFXIII. Final Fantasy is my favorite Franchise, but that is asking too much... I'm so mad, I could spit!
>:( <- see!
What happened between Nindendo and Square that makes Square wander like a wounded lover? Did leadership changes in one of the companies cause a drastic ship in the relationship? Did a bussiness deal go sour, and ruin the magic? Is there any way that this can be repaired?!

Square made it clear that they go to the platform that will sell the most games. This round, the DS wins by a longshot.
Do you know if they've announced a release date for DQIX yet?
Recently, Squaresoft announced that they would be moving the the Unreal 3 engine. I'm not sure how this fits in with future Final Fantasy development. My prediction is that if the PS3 continues to prove a stubborn platform (success wise), Square might seriously consider jumping ship for FF14. It's always a possibility that they would consider cross-platform releases as well; the Unreal 3 announcement points to this being a possibility. If they use a cross-platform engine for their new game, a simultaneous 360/PS3 release is not out of the question.
I'm not sure if the Unreal 3 engine is being ported to the Wii. I'm not sure if the graphics capabilities of the Wii are up to par for the Unreal 3 engine.
If the DS continues to be the runaway king of the gaming hardware world, I wouldn't count out a return to Nintendo - albeit in a handheld release. The Dragon Quest IX release will show us how well a major console release will do as a handheld-exclusive title.
It looks like Square Enix is starting to show Nintendo some interest again and have approached them with the intention of creating an online game for the system. However, they say that the Wii friend code is holding them back.
Square Enix's Senior Vice President Hiromichi Tanaka empathizes, highlighting the friend code system as the primary reason they haven't brought an online game like Final Fantasy XI onto the console. In an interview with Cubed's Adam Riley, Tanaka reveals that the RPG powerhouse is now in negotiations with Nintendo about "resolving this point of contention." A publisher of Square Enix's magnitude does not necessarily guarantee Nintendo will listen, but perhaps Nintendo will ease off or at least allow exceptions for some titles.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of the friend code system either. The console is great and very simple to use, but everything regarding the code system is obscure and clumsy. It definitely contrasts with the rest of the experience.
