I am reloading Win XP on a friends Laptop and am trying to backup as much info as I can.
I am however battling to find the folder with the stored e-mails and e-mail addresses for Outlook Express. Can anyone please point me in the right direction...
I have made a backup of his documents folder and noted his e-mail and internet settings. If there's anything I may have overlooked, your advice would be very appreciated.
Thanks!

Documents and Settings\Username\Local settings\Application Data\Identities\a really big goofy directory name with { brackets around it\Microsoft\Outlook Express\
What I do is just take the whole goofy directory name and move it/burn it/whatever you are doing to back up stuff. I contains a bunch of .dbx files that are basically all the folders in Outlook Express (including deleted and sent items)
Once Windows is re-installed, Open IE and re-setup the email accounts (servers, logins, etc) then go to File > Import > Messages > Choose OE 6 (which is probably what you have been using, but if not, choose 5 or whatever) > Next > Change from "Main Identity" to "OE6 Store directory" > Click OK > Now browse to the location that you moved that "big funky named directory" and make sure you browse all the way down into it where it says "Outlook Express" (you have to drill down all the way into the directory stucture basically) > Next > Select All Folders > Next and whoosh it should just do it. (there may be one more step in there at the end after clicking next, but I don't want to do it here because it will overwrite everything I have if there isn't another step )
Now for the Address book, easiest way is to Open OE and hit the "Addresses" Button, then from the File Menu inside the address book (not from File within OE) just choose Export (to a WAB file) then point it at My Documents, or the device that you are using to back up the data, name it, and save it. Then when you have the rebuilt PC setup, just open OE > Adddresses > File > Import > WAB > Point it at the file and Voila !!! all done.
Hope that helps
We touched on the topic HERE if you'd like to take a look. (see post # 13)
