Unlike AMD's K8 architecture, the RS690T enables the CPU to drop into a lower power state, allowing the system to use much less power. The K8 architecture wasn't able to do this efficiently due to the shared memory graphics controller, which needed to continuously access the memory, making the on-die north bridge a power hog.
The RS690 series will also allow for hot swapping without rebooting between an external GPU and the built-in X1250 core. Allowing better power management when only working with basic programs.
It's a great step towards making the overall system consume less energy and become more efficient with its offerings. Let's hope the next step is low power consumption GPUs...
