Dell's investors have sued the company over receipts of approximately $250 million per quarter in "illegal rebate kickbacks" from Intel. The money was given by Intel in exchange for Dell's exclusive use of Intel processors.
This under-the-table deal has long been suspected by fans of AMD, but finding confirmation of this underhanded dealing is appalling nonetheless.
Of course, the timing of this news seems rather ironic considering that Dell recently began selling PCs utilizing AMD processors. It leaves one wondering whether Dell made the decision to cancel Intel's exclusive supply deal out of fear for investor backlash, a possibility for higher profits with the AMD supply deal, or just out of a sense of guilty conscience.
