Vista - display stays on, no power options

Had Vista for 3 days now….it has yet to obey the Power Options and turn off the monitor. If I log off and leave it logged off, the monitor will shut down when its supposed to. As soon as I log back on, none of the Power Options control the computer. I set it to sleep after one minute….that was about 20 minutes ago.
Since it seems to be connected to the user login, I did disable the User Control thing that keeps my user from having full Administrative rights. No help.
Anyone else seeing this?

Must be some sort of ack kinda signal the keyboard receiver sends to the system and the system thinks its mouse movement....whatever. Probably be fixed with SP1. <----we'll be saying that one a few times in the next few months.
EDIT:
Its a Vista thing. Just go to Windows update and look at the optional updates. If you have a Microsoft wireless desktop set, Windows update will suggest a new driver with a filter for Vista. Now my power settings ignore the little ack messages from the wireless USB receiver and everything turns off when its supposed to.
Hey mtrox
That's an interesting find. I'm trying to resolve a similar problem on an XPPro system. Don't know if she's using wireless or not. I'll check in a few minutes. In the interim, what is "ack" that you're referring to?
EDIT://
Is THIS what you're referring to?
Yea that was kinda the idea. Seemed like it was some kind of traffic between the USB wireless receiver and the computer to tell each other they are still there and connected, and the system thought that was a mouse movement...I called it an ack signal. I'm sure some hardware guys here are rolling their eyes at me but...............screw 'em!!
I'll see if similar work has been done in Vista.
I have to tell you this little aside since we're (well, I am anyway) on the topic of humor. One of my clients sent me an email and told me I could remote in and install the "dragon" on Tuesday..... I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. I had talked to her about installing Comodo Firewall. I thought that was soooo cute! I'd never have thought of it that way. It's nice (and grounding) sometimes to get a peek into how this complicated world of computers is seen from a "normal" person's perspective.
Thank you for the info. mtrox. I understand your correlation completely.
Hey, Jonsey.... don't go away!! Is there a known issue of this sort w/ XP Pro?? I have a client running XP Pro who is experiencing the same problem. HERE's the thread if I can bother you to take a look. There aren't any suspicouous processes or tasks running that should be keeping the system awake. Additionally, if it is set to go to sleep in under 2 minutes, it will do so and it will stay asleep until one of the usual triggers occurs (mouse movement, key strike). Anything over 1 minute (2 or more) and it never (screen saver, etc.) kicks in...
Also I found it, and noticed it was approved for going on WU... details, details.
