I'm trying to use my K80 XI scanner and it keeps telling me "The computer cannot detect scanner or camera." I know Real Player causes this error, but I don't have real installed, so I don't know what else the problem is. I tried HP's software but it doesn't even install ("It can't load Java Virtual Machine", which is already running). Everything is plugged in securly. What should I do?

Are you referring to the HP Officejet K80 XI All-In-One MFC (multi-function center/device)?

There could be any number of reasons for your MFC not being detected.
    • Did the MFC ever work on this or any other computer (as a printer or as a scanner)?
    • Look in CONTROL PANEL-> SYSTEM-> HARDWARE-> DEVICE MANAGER
      • Do you see any alerts or red "X"s on any of the devices?
    • Look in CONTROL PANEL -> SCANNERS AND CAMERAS
      • Does the MFC scanner show there?
    • Does the MFC show up in PRINTERS AND FAXES?
    • If so, is there more than one instance of it in PRINTERS AND FAXES?
      • Are you able to print to the MFC?
        • Right-click on it in PRINTERS AND FAXES
        • Choose PROPERTIES
        • Choose PRINT TEST PAGE
        • Click OK
        • Click OK again
    • Is the device connected via parallel port (DB25 to centronics cable) or USB cable?
    • If it is now connected via USB cable, was it connected via parallel port before (on this computer)?
      • If so, then the MFC software will need to be uninstalled then re-installed selecting the USB connection type when prompted.
    • I've seen this b4 so I have to ask; Is the MFC connected to the computer by both an USB cable and a printer (DB25 to centronics) cable?
      • If it is, disconnect the printer (DB25 to centronics) cable
      • Uninstall the MFC software then re-install it choosing the USB connection type when prompted.
    • I've seen this b4, too so I'll ask; is there power to the MFC?
      • Check the power LED and the LED display to verify power to the device.
