Firewall question

edited February 2007 in Science & Tech
Not entirely sure where this thread belongs so feel free to move. In the past I've used Zone-Alarm as my firewall. However I've found turning it off notably increases the speed of my PC. So I've decided to go back to the basic Windows Firewall. Is this good enough? There's another one I'm thinking of trying - I think it's called Comodo. What do you guys use and what makes one firewall better than another?

    Hi Paul,

I've moved your thread to Networking and Security.
Comodo is an excellent fully functional Free Firewall and it seems a lot of people are trading Zone Alarm for Comodo. I have recently done this on two computers.

Give it go and see what you think.

I used to use a firewall in the past but like you said it slows the speed of my connection in the long run. I searched for other alternatives and I found Prevx1. I did not use a firewall and an antispyware after I installed this. And the speed of the internet is not affected. Hope this helps.

if you have some junker machine laying around you can turn that into a firewall using IPCOP or my favorite Smoothwall. If not, small routers like linksys and dlink have builtin firewalls that should suffice the average home user.
