Just one short month ago I posted about LG's upcoming Blu-ray/HD-DVD hybrid player that would be available in late March 2007. But with a determined LG behind it, it looks as if the ambitious LG Super Multi Blue Player (model LG BH100) has hit the market ahead of schedule. With a hefty price tag of $1,200, it makes one wonder, why the heck is this solution even being considered?

As of right now you are able to purchase a Xbox 360 with an external HD-DVD drive and a 20GB PS3 for under the cost of LG's new hybrid player. Is the cost really worth the convenience of having one solid High Definition player? I highly doubt it. With the market already producing dual-sided HD disc's with one side Blu-ray and the other HD-DVD, I am willing to bet over-priced hybrid players will be short-lived in this High Definition race.

I think I saw it a few days ago at CompUSA playing King Kong on a 42" LG LCD. Looked really nice, but I'm not touching that stuff till the prices drop dramatically.

Two years from now a similar model will cost <$200.
