HTPC & Router?

Due to my now confirmed DEAD wireless router(it served me so well!!!), I am looking into building a HTPC and Router combo... I should be getting Cable Internet soon and I being that I do not have a DVD player or anything but a TV right now I wanna save money all around and get me a computer setup as a router and HTPC.

Right now I am looking into some Mini-ATX/ITX hardware. I kinda have a small budget of maybe $200 so I am not sure if I can even do it really.

But I am curious on some of your takes on this. Is there a good linux Distro like smoothwall for routers, but will also let me use it as a HTPC?

I'd use Gentoo for this one but I'm biased. All of the Linux router distros are heavily slanted towards network optimizations and it seems like you're going to be using this for a home network. You really want a distro with a capable package manager that just gives you a blank slate to start with. I prefer Gentoo for this since it's easier to customize individual packages but some people like Debian.

Also, Gentoo maintains HOWTOs on how to set up common roles like MythTV box, iptables NAT/firewall/router, CUPS print server, etc.
