ID3 Tags == iTunes/iPod can't play mp3s?

To start, I have a fairly large CD collection which I ripped quite a while ago to one of my PCs and which has been migrating from computer to computer since. Recently, I got fed up with iTunes because it won't play some of my mp3s. Turns out the common thread is that any song (or at least a good % of them) that I modify its tag information in WMP can no longer be played in iTunes and therefore on my iPod.

Lets assume, for the moment, that I am in love with album art (which I am), so for the moment rockbox and podzilla are out of the question, since their interfaces dont support it.

I've read that I can rewrite the ID3 tags using foobar2000, but the problem is that this changes tag information in WMP. I'm slightly OCD about my music collection, and I would really like Albums, Artists, Track #s, Years, Genres, Album Art to be the same in both programs

Is there anything I can use here? Is Zortam the solution?

    I use Zortam. Like it a lot, but I don't have an iPod to test with.

    for the record, the solution was to add the entire library to Zortam and then delete the ID3v2 tags from all songs. FIXED!
