Internet Lagging at same time every night...plz help

edited March 2007 in Science & Tech
Hey guys I just joined the site and am already looking for some assistance,
I play World of Warcraft and am only able to play at night because of priorities....ok here it goes
at around midnight every night now for about 1 week my lag bar on Warcraft goes from about 28 ms to about 700 ms ( this is the latency) the higher the latency the worse it lags, then at about 6 a.m. the internet is fine again

Also this is not just WoW that lags my whole internet is slow during this time.

sooo, i was wondering if this was due to some setting on my network/router which reduces the amount of activity or something like that,
I own a Linksys Router if that helps

If anyone could tell me how to fix this that would be great!!

Thanks

I would say that it is highly likely the cause is not your equipment. Just to rule out the Linksys you could go around it and run straight into your computer tonight. But its hard to imagine anything in your computer or router that would trigger every night at the same time. Its far more easy to imagine something with you ISP.....

High CPU/Drive usage lagging the system's ability to respond down could affect you as well.

If you've got a slow-enough system, and it's got a schedule virus scan or malware scan at midnight, reschedule that, and you'll likely be happier.

Good thought. I even had one of those a month ago.

I used to have helpsvc.exe turn on around 12 pm every night and just drive me bonkers. It would use up a huge amount of memory and CPU cycles.I turned off Help in XP services and this nipped it in the bud.

it could be ISP-related maintenance. Is your ISP smaller, such as a local company, or is it a huge mega-provider like Comcast or AT&T?

    thanks for the ideas
    also...
    my ISP is comcast
and i have a Macbook and I don't think it checks for any software updates or other related updates...im pretty sure my computer can handle these programs as i play WoW because i have 1 gig of ram which is more than recommended for my computer usage
    ...if that helps
