problem, concerning 'default gateway'?

ok im not great with computers so thought id post on here for help:confused:

my internet connection has been bad for a week or so now, it just randomly goes on and off every fw minutes! if im on MSN i will be talking and then i wont get replys, then i realise it has disconnected and is attempting to re-connect! i ran the connection check that you can do at the start of MSN and a small error symbol appeared next to DEFAULT GATEWAY

a have no idea what this is, but it seems this is what is causing my internet connection problem, although the error symbol also appeared next to DNS a couple of times! its really annoying cos even surfing websites it will work for a couple of minutes and then it will just disconnect itself! ANY HELP I WILL BE VERY GRATEFUL!!!!:)

    I am not on MSN, BUT my ISP has taught me to:

    Shut down my modem for few minutes by pulling the power cord or unplugging that cord from what ever outlet it is hooked to. Then after a few minutes plug it back in-- this will cause it to update network connectivity. When the lights show that the modem has restored connectivity, start up your computer again. Windows, if DHCP is enabled, will accept settings from the modem.

    If you still have problems, or if you are using a built-in modem in your computer, let us know, PLEASE.

    cheers man, well i cant test it now cos my computers doing what it like to do every now and again and work fine!!!:hrm:

    but it always mucks up again when i least want it to!!! so i will test it out then, thanks man ill get back to ya!:)
