LAN connection/driver Disappeared!!

edited February 2007 in Science & Tech
When i turned on my desktop, i had no internet connection...
So i went through all the normal checks, modem powered, router powered, Local Area Connection enabled... Nothing seemed wrong until i checked my network connections and the Local Area Connection wasn't there... i asked my friend and he said he thought it was either a problem with with the driver or the hardware itself... so i checked the driver and it wasn't there either...

Any one know anything about it?

When you say the driver has disappeared, I have the feeling you mean it doesn't show up in Device Manager. However, if you knew the names of the actual files you might still find them under windows\system32\. I would guess what you're seeing is that the hardware isn't detected so the driver doesn't show in device manager. You get the same exact symptoms if you remove a USB wireless card. Put the USB wireless back in and the driver shows up again.

So my guess is that your network adapter is dead. If it's a PCI card one there is an outside chance that PCI slot is dead. You might try to reseat it, just take it out and put it back in, maybe put it back in a different PCI slot, then boot back up. If we're talking about a network card that's part of the mobo, then you're screwed. A new one PCI network adapter is only about $10-$20 these days. I'd try that first.
