Maybe, your computer got infected with a virus. In my case when this happens, I reformat my computer and install a new Windows.

    ^^^^whoa...slow down on that thought^^^^

Your computer and the router are communicating. You're getting an IP address from it in the same subnet. But...that test you posted tells you that you don't have DNS. In fact it looks like test succeed to an IP address, but not to any of the URL's.

Assuming this is Win 2000 or XP, go to Start> Run..., type cmd then hit "Enter". Then I don't care what that screen says, just type ipconfig /all and hit "Enter". You should see all of your network devices. Post back with the DNS server numbers for the one you are using to connect. According to the above it should be the one with the 192.168.1.100 address.

Then open a browser, highlight everything in the address bar and type this IP address, 216.109.118.66......no http stuff, no www. stuff, just the address and hit enter. Do you get to Yahoo?

    Humpty,
    1. Do you have some Internet Security Suite? Zone Alarm is famous for just blocking your DNS servers (I have yet to decipher the practicality of that one).
    2. <O:p</O:pDo you just have one computer? If there are 2 or 3, do they all have the same symptom?<O:p</O:p
    3. Assuming this is Win 2000 or XP, go to Start> Run..., type cmd then hit "Enter". Then I don't care what that screen says, just type ipconfig /all and hit "Enter". You should see all of your network devices. Post back with the DNS server numbers for the network adapter you are using to connect.

I have the same problem. I have six computers three with vista and three with xp, those with vista are connecting fine to the internet whereas those with xp not connecting to the internet. only connecting locally. I have a dsl modem which feeds a router which feeds a switch. All the xp systems freaked out the same day. I am not connecting to yahoo using the ip address you suggested, says the addressnot valid.

    Go into dos and type:
    ping 4.2.2.1

it should come back with a response looking like:
    Reply from 4.2.2.1: bytes=32 time=17ms TTL=54

    then type:
    ping -a 4.2.2.1

it should come back with a response of:
Pinging vnsc-pri.sys.gtei.net [4.2.2.1] with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 4.2.2.1: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=54

If it doesn't respond with the vnsc-pri.sys line then you are having dns issues. If none of the ping tests are working it's something else.
