Update for SimCity 4 DE?
I just got SimCity Deluxe Edition on sale at the bookstore (I somehow missed it's initial release some years ago... I didn't even know there was a SimCity 4 :P)
It performs great, and I'm having fun with it, except for the crashes.
I've seen on a couple of websites that there is a patch out there somewhere, but I can't find it. The manual says that I simply need click the 'connect to internet' button from inside the game in order to update.
The button does nothing when I click it (it doesn't even give a message, it just doesn't do anything). I've checked simcity.com, and there is nothing even resembling a 'download patches' section of the site.
Anyone know where I could get it?

Then today, while I was explaining to my class how a dual-core processor works, it struck me: SimCity 4 is a pre-dual-core program, and I have a dual core processor... I was mid-sentance, explaining how dual-core processors can cause some programs to inexplicably error and quit... I even exclaimed to my students, "In fact, now that I think of it, that must be why I can't play SimCity!" I lost my place in the lecture, and had to restart the explanation..
Now, I can't wait to get home tonight and see if SimCity is more stable if set to run on only one processor...
I had to run that game on only one processor to get it to work. It's shame you can't set a short-cut to automatically adjust the processor afinity for the program.
The task simply stops, no warning, no pre-crash slowdown, not evan a 'would you like to tell MS about this crash' dialog afterwards.
It doesn't seem to happen when a particular thing is going on in the game, but so many things go on in that game at once, that it could be following a pattern that I simply cannot see.
Theif 3 crashed exactly the same way when I first installed it.
