HELP get rid of spyware and Gophersearch!

I followed all of the steps before doing my HJT log. I am afraid I might have messed up the process though. I downloaded spywearblaster and everywhere that it had gophersearch as my homepage i changed it to yahoo. Hopefully that did not mess up getting it off of my system. Everytime I do a websearch though certain letters on the webpages are highlighted in green for me to click to go to a sponsored link. So I know there is still something on my computer. Any help would be grealy appreciated. Here is my HJT log. Norton keeps popping up smss.exe as a virus too.

    Can you please do the following.

    ===============

    Download, then unzip to "C:\HJT", the newest version of HiJackThis; version 1.99.1. Then repost your log, either now, or after following the steps in the solution (if provided in this post). This version has features that might be more helpful in 'cleaning' up your system.

    ===============

    Let's look for, and delete, any program segments (prefetches) that might be present, and are associated with the 'problems' we're trying to remove from your PC. To do this, let's:

    1) Click "Start | Search", then search for each of these program's base name(s), in all files and folders:

    smss.exe*

    2) Then if any are found in the 'prefetch' folder, delete them.

    Look closely, since the 'base' name will have a bunch of random numbers and letters attached to it.

    ===============

    Run HiJackThis then:

    1. Click "Open the Misc Tools Section"
    2. Click "Open Process manager"

    -

    Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

    C:\WINDOWS\smss.exe

    Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

    ===============

    Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

    O2 - BHO: ohb - {E8888041-B24A-4B0B-911B-12B018E43F21} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\rlmtcs.dll

    O4 - Global Startup: Digital Line Detect.lnk = ?

    O16 - DPF: {87067F04-DE4C-4688-BC3C-4FCF39D609E7} - http://download.websearch.com/Dnl/T_50212/QDow_AS2.cab

    Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    ===============

    Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

    files...

    C:\WINDOWS\smss.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\rlmtcs.dll

    -

    Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in Safe Mode by doing the following:
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear.
    Select the first option to run Windows in Safe Mode hit enter.

    -

    Reboot.

    ===============

    To help protect your system from hostile ActiveX content, or special 'downloadable' files:

    Download, install and keep updated, SpywareBlaster. If you've installed it for the first time:

    1) Check for any available updates; if present, they'll be automatically downloaded and installed.
    2) Next, "Enable all protection".
    3) Exit the program.

    -

    Note: Remember to regularly check for updates.

    ===============

    After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

    Can you please do the following.

    ===============

    Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://www.gophersearch.com/
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.gophersearch.com/
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.gophersearch.com/
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.gophersearch.com/
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.gophersearch.com/
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.gophersearch.com/

    O23 - Service: Windows Management Updater (WinManUpdater) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\smss.exe

    Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    ===============

    1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
    • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
    • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop

    2. Copy all the text (including the 'Files to delete') contained in the code box below to your clipboard by highlighting it and pressing Ctrl+C:
    Files to delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\smss.exe
    Folders to delete:

    Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

    3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
    • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
    • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
    • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
    • Click Done
    • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
    • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
    4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
    • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
    • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
    • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
    • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
    5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log by using Add/Reply

    Just got to get rid of this one;

    ===============

    Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

    O23 - Service: Windows Management Updater (WinManUpdater) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\smss.exe (file missing)

    Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    ===============

    After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and see if that entry is still there. If it is, do the following;

    Start>>Run and type regedit
    Press enter.
    Navigate to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Windows Management Updater (WinManUpdater)

    If Windows Management Updater (WinManUpdater) exists , right click on it and choose delete from the menu.

    Now navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_Windows Management Updater (WinManUpdater)

    If LEGACY_Windows Management Updater (WinManUpdater) exists then right click on it and choose delete from the menu.

    Reboot and post another log please and let me know how things are.

    Took those steps. Deleted the first winmaupdate. When I tried to delete the second one in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_*Windows Management Updater (WinManUpdater)*"
    got a message saying "cannot delete Legacy_winmanupdater: Error while deleting key"

    Attached is the new log.

    Thanks,
    Bill

    One of our other helpers here has pointed something out to me, so can you please do the following;

    Download
    SDFix
    and save it to your desktop.

    Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the
    following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the
      Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
    • Choose your usual account.
    • In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract
      All
      ,
    • Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to
      start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the script.
    • It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the
      registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool
      will be running and removing files.
    • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and
      display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load
      your desktop icons.
    • Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the
      contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with
      a new HijackThis log

    Viewpoint Manager is considered to be foistware, rather than malware, since it is installed without users approval, but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". Please read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
    I suggest that you remove the program. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.
    Viewpoint
    Viewpoint Manager
    Viewpoint Media Player

    Did you have hidden files/folders set to unhide before looking for them?

    Use The Avenger as per the previous instructions and enter this line;
    Files to delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\d3zl.exe

    Reboot then post another hijackthis log please.
