NFL and MLB fans are still crossing their fingers, but <a href="http://www.nypost.com/seven/02192007/business/heavenly_deal_business_peter_lauria.htm">according to the rumors</a>, soon they will be united and rejoicing.

XM and Sirius are expected to announce the news of their merge sometimes this week; possibly even today. The merger would bring the total number of subscribers to about 12 million. Ultimately this would be a good move for the listener, bringing all the content to one single service. Currently sports and entertainment fans are torn between exclusive deals. XM has the rights to all the MLB coverage while Sirius has all the NFL action.

Sadly, the merger could take up to 15 months to go through. Better late than never?

Update: It has been confirmed, the companies are indeed merging. Of course there is still a bunch of fire hoops they have to jump through; such as getting the FCC to actually approve. But we like to stay positive right?

This is cool, my wife's Suburban and my work truck both have XM, but I like Sirius much better.

I hope it's rejected by the FCC. Both companies have compelling content as a result of the competition for subscribers. Prices have remained stable as well. I would like to see a standard interface so that you can choose one or the other regardless of vehicle brand, or even both if you so desire, but my suspicion is that folding them into one company will ultimately lead to many dissatisfied consumers.
