Can't connect to a PC on the network

I have 5 PC's at home that are all linked on a wireless network.

I took one of my PC's to a friends house and tried to connect it to his PC with a crossover cable. I fiddled with a lot of settings I didn't really know much about, but finally got it working.

Trouble is, now that it's come home to roost, its not talking to the rest of it's brothers and sisters. On the PC in question, it's not showing the shared folders and drives of the other PC's in the network when I look in "My network Places". It's only showing it's own folders.
On the computers that didn't leave the roost, they showing all the folders including the PC in question. However when I try to link to any of them, they give me an error message along the lines of: "Drive XXX is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator...blaadi blaadi bla... The network name cannot be found."

It's probably a dumb setting I haven't figured out. Any help would be appreciated and Smiley (the computers name) would be eternally grateful. She's been a bit lonely without the rest of her clan.

Have you remembered to change the workgroup name back to yours, I presume that you had to change it to your friends workgroup name to get it to work on his network.

Winga, I shudder to think what you might do to comfort your lonely computer. But it sounds like it's networked fine at the Ethernet level since you other computers can see it. However, that network browsing can be deceptive. I've had network shares show up long after the target compuer was turned off...like days after. It wouldn't hurt to bring up a command prompt window and ping your lonely friend. I'm assuming you can ping "her" IP address. Can you ping her share name too?

If so then it might come down to some sharing permissions you played with when you were pimping out Smiley at your buddy's house. That's usually what that "you might not have permission" stuff means.

    Hi Guys

I seem to have got it working but don't ask me how
Not all the shared drives and folders are showing up in 'My Network'. However if I go to 'View Workgroup Computers' all 5 comps show up there. If I drill down into them they give me all the folders that are shared and I'm able to transfer files, link for multi-player games and do whatever I have to so it's cool.

Most importantly Smiley's reunited with her family and shes back to her old self again ;)

Sometimes when they're happy it's best not to ask why...just enjoy it while you can.

The same goes for computers too...
