Vista to XP... HELP!!!
Hi Everyone,
So I got a new laptop. Gateway MX8715. Very excited. Only one issue. It comes with Vista preinstalled... So I built a slipstream disk for XP with SP2 and the SATA drivers(yay me, only took like six times...) So now I have this laptop with XP installed and I come to find out that Gateway only makes Vista drivers for the hardware. They won't install in XP so I can't even try it, I have searched through the restore disk but can't seem to find anything relevent. If I could just get the wireless functionality or the Ethernet port to have some functionality and connectivity, I think that windows update should have me covered on everythign else.
Oh, I also tried installing drivers from a Gateway of the same series that had XP drivers instead of Vista to no avail. I really don't want to use Vista as it is a resource hog and rather unstable IMO but if I can't get any connectivity with XP, the thing might as well be a very expensive paperweight.
Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated.

On another note, I've had Vista for 3 weeks now, and set up two other Vista boxes for customers. I haven't seen any instability at all. Lots of driver drama as you're seeing, but seems rock solid on all other fronts.
