Neighbor bought a used laptop. It needs to have HDD wiped clean and an OS installed. He wants to install his old Win2K OS.
Anyone know a good hard drive wiper and emergency boot CD?
Thanks for the info.

DBAN is an excellent program for wiping HDDs in a snap.

I've used DBAN before and it worked well.

Is it possible to download DBAN to a CD?
I've used a 4 floppy disc emergency boot set after DBAN has run-- can the emergency boot set be transferred to a CD?

    I appreciate the help.
Snowing in southern MN right now--brrrr!

I followed the above link and downloaded it to my desktop. When I tried to extract the files a message box appeared: 7-Zip Diagnostic Message: ubcd34-basic.exe is not supported archive

Any idea what this means and what should I do next?

My guess would be that the file may be corrupt. Did you check it against either of the checksums provided?

To be honest, I have always just downloaded the .iso version, then burned it as an image. :)

Situation resolved! The Win2K disk automatically formatted the HDD and proceeded to install correctly.
    Thanks for the help everyone!
