Dreamweaver killing web site connection?

I can't get to my dev site right now. This happens a lot, and I can only ever fix it by rebooting. This time, it didn't work.

- I cannot access the site by browser, FTP, or SSH
- I can ping the site successfully and run traceroute on it
- No other sites are affected
- Everyone else can get to the site fine - it's just me

I've been using the built-in FTP feature in Dreamweaver to connect to the site and I've noticed a correlation between my use of it and this happening.

- My hosts file is blank
- Renewed my IP
- Flushed my DNS
- Restarted my router
- Can't get to the site by IP, either, so it's not DNS anyway

Restarting my router actually worked... for about 30 seconds. Generally, I have to reboot my system. If it happens once a day, ok, but today I've rebooted 5 times and I've about had it.

My connection goes like this:

DSL -> Router with wireless -> Wireless bridge -> Switch -> My Computer

Any ideas?

Of course writing that post made me go "Well, might as well try the switch" so I unplugged it and plugged it back in again - and tada, it works again. I'd still be interested in wtf causes my switch to choke on a single website if anyone knows. :wtf:

Dreamweaver opens a lot of simultaneous sessions.

Resetting the switch accomplishes only one thing that I can think of: a corrupt ARP cache.

Not sure if that's what's causing the problem though.

Session limiter? See's you popping a ton of sessions, so it kills the connection? Dunno, I know we have that kinda thing where I work though.

This is the first I've heard of ARP - gogo Wikipedia :p Is there anything I can do for ARP corruption or a session limiter beside periodically unplugging my switch? (It just worked again 5 minutes ago so I'm feeling more confident it's at least my simplest solution at the moment... certainly easier than rebooting, which takes forever).

Hey I have noticed a new issue with Dreamweaver and Vista. I have a few sites plugged into the FTP access, but everytime I try to log on it will not remember the username or password and yest the box is checked to remember it. any ideas what this could be?

Sledge, I don't have Dreamweaver but know that IE7 handles ftp much differently....so if Dreamweaver uses IE7 for its ftp interface that issue might be IE, not technically Vista. I've had to change my ftp shortcuts to use explorer.exe instead of IE...like this:

    "%windir%\explorer.exe ftp://whatever.com"

I use shortcuts like that in Vista constantly. Don't know if that helps you.

Now resetting the switch isn't working this time. Worked once yesterday, now it doesn't work at all. :(

//edit: Brian, is it possible the site is blocking me because too many sessions are open or something?

//edit2: Ha! I bet it is! I just used a proxy server and I can get to it again! wtf is going on?

Brian told me to check my settings for Passive or Active mode, and when I switched them up it seemed to work again :) I am learning something new daily :)
