Microsoft Pic Mgr kills AVG???||BSOD and a strange line

edited February 2007 in Science & Tech
Hey Guys,

I’ve been trying to fix this on my own, but I think it’s worse than I originally expected. I have a dell Inspiron E1705. A while back I got the BSOD with a NMI parity error message. This happened frequently for a while but has stopped now. I have done the memtest 86+ and a few CPU stress tests: they all passed.

Recently I have noticed a line running lengthwise across my screen about half way up/down. This line “pulls” images together from about a pixel in both directions (“E” turns into a short “[“ ). I’ve tried to capture this with the Print screen function but it doesn’t show up. I’ve updated my Video Driver, no effect.

Also, when I open the Microsoft Picture Manager I receive multiple errors (still working on getting those written down) and the AVG icon in my taskbar tells me that the “red items are at an error state.” Then AVG disappears from my taskbar and start menu and I am forced to restart my computer.

I’ve done many scans for malware. Nothing more than tracking cookies are ever found. In general my computer seems slower than it used to be. And when the screen saver turns on (blank screen) my computer usage jumps up.

I don’t know if this is malware related, just bad RAM, a software issue or whatever else, but I’ve run into dead ends with everything I’ve tried. :bawling: If anyone knows something about any of these problems I’d really like to hear ideas about fixing them.

Thanks,

I dont know if it'll help but, here's a HJT logfile:

A small update on this problem:
The Microsoft Picture Manager works sometimes, but when I try to close it the process needs to be killed in taskmgr. Also, when the pic mgr is up and running, the process "OIS.exe" takes up about 50% of my cpu usage.

If this is posted in the wrong section please tell me. I'm not entirely sure what kind of problem this is.

    Thanks,
