Another Downloader.Zlob.FC victim

KhromKhrom Montreal, Canada New
edited March 2007 in Spyware & Virus Removal
Well, looks like my comp. inherited the bugger. (And me getting a bad cold virus)

I've been getting regular warnings by my installed AVG about a Trojan horse Downloader.Zlob.FC
Scans with AVG reports nothing and unable to remove.

Here are the steps I've taken:
I've read the thread "Please Read Here Before Posting A HijackThis Log!"
-Ran ATF_Cleaner. Selected all and it freed 366.563 MBs
NOTE: Firefox and Opera were blank. Even if I do use Firefox
-Installed Ad-Aware SE (Build 1.06r1). Followed the posted instructions. Nothing detected.
-Installed Spybot. Fixed 53 problems. (FullReport.txt available if requested)
-Installed SpywareBlaster
-Ran Panda online Scan (report = Activescan.txt)

But AVG keeps giving me warnings about the little bugger. I move the files into the AVG vault and empty it everytime I am around the computer. I just hope someone can help me.

I've been reading the other threads from people that have the same problem I have. So, before anyone asks, here is the Vundofix report file.

Hi Khrom and welcome to Short-Media! :)

Since you have run VundoFix, I'll need to see a new HijackThis log. I also need to see another log from HijackThis.
    • Run Hijackthis.
    • Click on Open the Misc Tools section.
    • Next click on Open uninstall manager.
    • Press the Save list button.
    • Save the file to your desktop, with the default name of uninstall_list
    • Copy & Paste the entire contents of that file in your in your next post.

Please paste your log in the forum and not attach them. It makes it easier for me.

    Thank you!

Added note: I have not received any warnings from my AVG since early today (Eastern time). By the feel and looks of it, the darn trojan is gone. Any ways to make sure of this?
  • TroganTrogan London, UK
    edited February 2007
Hi Khrom. Glad to hear the warnings have stopped, but there is still some Vundo Trojans present.

    Please do the following...

    1. Open HijackThis
    - Click the Do a system scan only button
    - Check the following entries (below)

    F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=

    - Close ALL open windows (especially Internet Explorer!)
    - Click Fix Checked
    Close HiajckThis

    2. Please download Killbox and save it to your desktop.

Now, copy everything in the Quote box below by pressing Ctrl+C
    E:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools\SetupDTSB.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddcyvvu.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\opnmklm.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtustqn.dll
    Next, open Killbox
Go to the File tab and select Paste from Clipboard
Select the Delete on Reboot option
    Select All Files
Now click on the Red Circle with the White X
Press Yes to reboot your computer.

    3. After the computer has rebooted, I need you to rename HijackThis.exe to Scanner.exe

Please post a new HijackThis (Scanner) log.

Followed your instructions. But killbox was unable to reboot computer.
After getting to see the little killbox countdown I get a Windows warning.
It says; PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!
with only a 'ok' button. Once clicked, no reboot.

That is most likely caused by the Vundo files. You will have to manually delete the files listed above.

If you have trouble finding them, then make sure you can view hidden files and folders. You can do this by doing the following...
    • Click Start.
    • Open My Computer.
    • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    • Select the View Tab.
    • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    • Click Yes to confirm.
    • Click OK.
If you have trouble deleting the files, please try in Safe Mode. You can access Safe Mode, by doing the following...
    • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
    • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
    • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
    • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
    • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
    • Login on your usual account.
Once that is done, continue with renaming HijackThis.

I've deleted all but the last file (vtustqn.dll). Even in safe mode, windows will not let me delete it.
Message received when trying to delete: (in regular and safe mode)
Cannot delete vtustqn: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and retry.

I've looked at the running processes in safe mode and I did not see anything out of the ordinary.

Edit: At reboot in regular mode, spyware doctor poped a window saying deleting virtumonde (or something similar)

      • Click the Save Report as button.
      • Save the report to your Desktop.
    • Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes
Reboot back into Normal Mode, and post a new HJT log (Please rename it first as instructed earlier), along with the AVG anti-spyware log.

Can you also post the log from AVG anti-spyware.

You need to run VundoFix again but slightly different than before.
    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    • Right Click inside the listbox (white box) and click Add more file?
    • Copy & Paste the 2 entries below into the top 2 boxes

      • C:\WINDOWS\system32\mljjg.dll
      • C:\WINDOWS\system32\gjjlm.*

    • Click Add Files and click Close Window
    • Click the Remove Vundo button.
    • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
    • Turn your computer back on.
    • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

    2. Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update to the latest version...

    Updating Java:
    • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 .
    • Click the "Download" button to the right.
    • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement."
    • The page will refresh.
    • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
    • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
    • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove the following...
      • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
    • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
    • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.
    3. Please post a new HijackThis log and let me know how things are. :)

    Only good news available. ;)

Your log is clean. Anymore problems?

Do you have an active Firewall?
