lan connection doesnt start

edited February 2007 in Science & Tech
Hi, i've got a problem with my lan connection...
Everytime when i boot up my pc, the lan connection icon (the one with the two pc screens) doesnt show up in my task bar, and i havent any internet/network connection.
The only way to activate it is by waiting about 3-5 minutes and then the icon appears and then i have internet connection and networking

another way is by clicking on my networklocations and then click on "show network connections", my pc slows down for around 15-20 secs and after that the network icon appears in my task bar.

this started a week ago, before that everything went fine

i hope someone can help me...

    Weird Robbie.
    1. What's the Operating System?
    2. Any changes at all in since this started?
    3. When you say LAN connection, do you mean wired or wirleless?

First thing I'd try....though these symptoms aren't exactly the way this ususally shows up....is to turn off any power management on the network card in question. Go to Control Panel> Device Manager, and click the + by network adapters so you can see them. Then right click on the adapter you are talking about, then click Properties. Depending on the driver, there may be a power management tab where you can turn off any power management. If not, go to the Advanced tab...there may be a switch there to turn it off. This is just a shot. Usually that only comes into play after you've been up a while, not when you first boot up...ya never know though.
