U.S University Wisconsin sues Sony on PS2 issue
The U.S University of Wisconsin believe that Sony has infringed on one of their patents that covers advanced chip making technology such as MIPS core with extensions. It is thought that the lawsuit could make Sony consider paying a licence fee for the 60 million odd Playstation 2 chips it has shipped so far.
[blockquote]The patent covers advanced chipmaking technologies and has been licensed by a number of technology companies, according to the WARF representative, who said Sony and Toshiba have so far declined to obtain a license. "We hope the lawsuit will encourage them to bargain in good faith," the representative said.
