LG CD-ROM Firmware problem with Linux

edited October 2003 in Science & Tech
It has been reported that there appears to be some un-expected problems occurring when running Mandrake's Linux OS version 9.2 on a system contained some Goldstar (LG) CD-ROMs.

[blockquote]But the real question is whether it's the software or the hardware at fault – so we guess LG has to battle it out with the software vendors.
...
Mandrake says that LG doesn't either support or test with Linux operating systems – a strange omission on the Korean hardware firm's behalf, we'd suggest.
...
It clearly warns that you should not install Mandrake Linux 9.2 on any PC containing an LG CD-ROM drive or it will damage your CD-ROM drive.

This is certainly a weird situation, but nevertheless, any one who thinks they might be effected, should click the link below to find out more on what Mandrake have to say on this issue.
