Another infested machine needs help.

Hello all,

I appreciate the fact that there are forums available to help folks such as myself irradicate these pesky intrusions. I read the sticky Please Read Here Before Posting A HijackThis Log! and, hopefully, I will be able to provide all the necessary information required. Here goes nothing.

As for the performance of my machine, I havent really noticed much of a difference. No lagging or crashes. I have been running NOD32 virus protection and Comodo firewall for some time now. I would not have realized there was a problem if I had not made it a habbit to go to TrendMicro every couple of months and run their online scan. It returned 4 viri that it could not remove. They were FREELOADER_DRIVERCLEANER, ADWARE_BESTOFFERS, FREELOADER_SMITFRAUD and RAP_GENERIC. I didnt see anywhere to create a log on TrendMicro.

I then ran AVG Anti-Spyware. It found my cookies (have since cleaned them out) and another virus that it couldnt remove. After which, I came here and followed the Please Read Here Before Posting A HijackThis Log!

I also opted to run the Kasperski and BitDefender scans. However, their logs are in html format. I zipped them and added them as an attachment below. Otherwise, this post would be 10 or 15 thousand lines long.

Hi Dave1966,

I removed the Code tag from HijackThis; it is easier to read without it. However, I left the tag for the Panda report because the formatting is awkward if removed.

What Trend Micro found look like False Positives. Did Trend Micro point to a location of the infected programs?

The Panda scan found the following. Do you know anything about the files?

C:\FROM OLD E DRIVE\mIRC\script\dlls\moo.dll
C:\FROM OLD E DRIVE\mIRCinvision\Invision\Stdio.dll
C:\Program Files\mIRC\Invision\Stdio.dll

Also, your HijackThis is clean. Did you add this website to your Trusted Zone?

O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.trymedia.com (HKLM)

Lets remove an orphaned entry...

Open HijackThis - Click the Do a system scan only button
- Check the following entries (below)

R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)

O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.trymedia.com (HKLM)
<-- only if you did not add this to your Trusted Zone

- Close ALL open windows (especially Internet Explorer!)
- Click Fix Checked
Close HiajckThis

Apart from that, your computer looks to be in good shape. :)

Let me know about the above files please.

It's an irc program. Not sure about those files in particular. I will delete them as they are part of the installation program and arent being used anyway.
I have a newer version installed that doesnt have those files with it.

As for the rest of what you had to say, no, I didnt add a url to a "trusted" zone. I followed the steps you gave to remove its entry and the toolbar one.
If there is anything else I need to do, by all means, let me know. I'll check back a few times over the next week just to be sure.

Thank you very much for the help. I'm glad it wasnt as bad as I had thought.

Regards,
Dave1966

You need to update Java, but I need to see another log from HijackThis so I can give you specific instructions.
• Run Hijackthis.
• Click on Open the Misc Tools section.
• Next click on Open uninstall manager.
• Press the Save list button.
• Save the file to your desktop, with the default name of uninstall_list
• Copy & Paste the entire contents of that file in your in your next post.

Hi Dave! Let's update Java...

Updating Java:
• Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 .
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement."
• The page will refresh.
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove the following...
• J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
• J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
• J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
• Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_02
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.

• Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.

The link you provided above works fine. However, when I click on the download button,
I get "Cannot find server". I've tried it several times today to no avail. Will try again tomorrow.

It is working for me. Give it another try. :)

I have yet to be able to connect to the download page on Sun's site. I tried 15-20 times today. No luck.
I did, however, download it from MajorGeeks. I uninstalled the old and have installed the new.
