Getting rid of the bad sectors error message

edited March 2007 in Science & Tech
Upon boot up into Win98SE, I get a message about a drive that may have developed bad sectors...run Scandisk....blahbedyblah...
Well, no other disk check utility shows bad sectors so I don't want scandisk to 'fix' it. When I accessed the data at what it reported as a bad sector, there was no problem either. And finally, I really don't care, it's just my internet computer. I just want the nag message to go away when booting so I don't have to keep pressing any key to continue (Where is that 'any' key anyway? My keyboard doesn't seem to have it). Since I don't allow scandisk to fix it, the message remains. When the system is starting, what is being read to trigger the scandisk/bad sectors message? Where is this supposed problem logged and how can I just get rid of the message?
Thanks

If the volume is marked "dirty" you'll get that message until you let scandisk run, which marks it clean. I don't think it can hurt to let scandisk "do its thing".
