hey guys,
just spent the last three hours setting up my home network and now im having problems figuring out how to share files. My laptop(HP dv9220us notebook) and desktop(EMachine. t6216) is connected to a linksys wireless router. The laptop is connected wirelessly while the desktop is connected with an ethernet wire. I tried to right click the file and just press the share button but im not having any luck that way. thanks for the time. please help!

    big,

Assuming you only have the windows firewall, you should be able to share things by going to Control Panel and going through the Network Setup Wizard. That sets several settings you need to share files and printers. Run it on both machines. If you are using some Internet Security-type suite, you've got a whole new layer of stuff to work through.

hmmm cant seem to get it. I'm running vista if that helps, im gonna keep messin around with it and ill check back to see if you guys got more ideas for me
PS running norton internet security on the laptop(vista) and sygate personal firewall on the desktop(XP)

OK so now i can see the icons and the names of the folders im trying to share but when i click on them it says "\\hp-user-pc\world of warcraft not accesible you might not have permissions to use this resource contact the administrator of this server to find out blah blah blah"

That error is about permissions. If it's the Vista machine that will let you get to the share but not get in it, right click on the folder you're sharing, then left click the Share... item on that menu. Then Advanced Sharing, in the next window click the Permissions button, then check the boxes to give the user "Everyone" full control of the share as shown below.
